Making WordPress Permalinks Work without mod_rewrite

Thanks JTPratt Media for saving the day. Today my client Full Circle Farm had some trouble getting Friendly URL permalinks set on their WordPress site, after a little review I became painfully aware that they were using a Windows web hosting account with GoDaddy.

Indeed his process worked just fine for me, posted below and originally here. However, I was unable to locate the web.config file. So I created one using the final piece of code he provided. I create the XML using Dreamweaver, uploaded it via FTP to the server as web.config.xml – then I removed the “.xml” from the file name. Viola!

exasperated, I learn something new… anyway .. or the elephant in the room

SSH and punching through what I know I don’t know….

I made some firm new years resolutions not to learn anything new for the next 12 months. Nurture the little tid-bits of information I’ve learned over the last 10 years and become fully educated on those things.

Of course late last year I made the suggestion to CTN Bay Area that we ought to leave GoDaddy shared hosting and move over to a virtual dedicated server (You say VDS, I say VPS… lets call the whole thing off). The motivating factor had to due with SMTP protocols and the time out errors we were getting using CiviMail with Drupal and recently, I have become more motivated due to random server errors. (More on those two issues later) and (let’s bitch about GoDaddy later)
